open, and where prostitutes no longer had to hide from police? It would be a world that some argue is void of morality, and one where anything goes. Of course,
that is far from the intent of the typical libertarian who sees the government as impinging on many individual rights. The most significant example of the libertarian stance that people
like to focus on is the doing away with anti-drug laws. The libertarian view holds that drugs should be legalized and everyone should have the opportunity to decide for themselves
which drugs they want to use, either for recreation or for medicinal purposes. At first glance, it seems to be a radical idea, and one void of morality. The mainstream
view is that parents must fight drugs so that their children will be okay. It contends that recreational drug use is bad for individuals, for their health and for society
at large. Although marijuana has not in reality been deemed harmful--and in fact some data shows it has a great deal of medical benefits--the society does not want people to
become lazy. It is this drive for success that is instilled in people, and not the "laid back" mentality that marijuana use prompts. Of course, this is really not a
good reason to outlaw the substance. The society also claims that pot is a gateway drug and that it leads to heroin use and usage of harder drugs that are
very dangerous to ones health. Still, what gives society the right to decide what one will use and not use? Other more palatable arguments for the legalization of all prescriptions
and illicit drugs go to the fact that people need paper prescriptions to get basic necessary medicines. An ear infection prompts one to call the pediatrician who will likely prescribe
