Drugs Subject: Pharmacist Hiring Practices This memo is in response to your inquiry originating with possible
discriminatory hiring practices at Foxtrots Drugs. The specific case in question is that of hiring practices for the position of pharmacist in Foxtrots retail locations. As you have
requested, outlined below is the plan by which Foxtrots intends to investigate the matter. Plan of Action Foxtrots takes this charge of discriminatory
hiring practices very seriously. The company is dedicated to providing the highest quality service in the vein of highest ethical standards. Certainly Foxtrots knows the law and intends
to abide by it, but we also realize that diversity is a point of competitive advantage and we actively pursue the goal of accurately reflecting the diversity of the local
communities in which we operate. This is minimum standard for Foxtrots; we consider less to be a failure to serve our local markets in ways most meaningful for our
customers. Preliminary investigation of the matter reveals that in the past year, Foxtrots has advertised for and hired six new pharmacists, one-third of
which represent minority populations. Nationally, "less than 37% of doctor of pharmacy graduates are under-represented minorities, and more than half of those are Asian/Pacific Islanders" (Chisholm, 2004). Support
for Foxtrots commitment to diversity can be expressed in terms used by Chisholm (2004): Racial and ethnic minority health care professionals are significantly more likely than nonminorities to serve minority
and medically underserved communities, thereby helping to improve access to care. Furthermore, minority patients ratings of the quality of their health care are generally higher in racially concordant settings
