morning, going to work, and then coming home to her man for an intimate night. In fact, todays women have choices and they are not expected to do it all.
They are not the Mary Tyler Moores of the world, nor are they the Murphy Browns. Today, they have choices and are not fighting for a place in society. They
can be doctors, lawyers or writers. They can allow themselves to indulge in innocence, and maintain their virginity until they marry. Many religious girls do so and there is even
a virginity movement. Teen idol Britney Spears claims to be one. On the other hand, women can feel free to pursue their sexuality, even outwardly like the middle aged
Madonna, and still be wealthy and independent. It does seem that the modern woman has it all, including a myriad of choices that were not available to her in the
past. Of course, at second glance, that is not entirely true. Women are still stereotyped as virgins or whores, and that has not changed, even though womens work has.
Womens work has changed only in quantity. Women are still the ones to maintain the home, and while they have choices and can choose not to marry, by and large,
that is an unpopular choice. While the term spinster is no longer bandied about, certainly women are glared at when they reach a certain age and are not married. They
talk about their body clocks a lot, and soon find they are desperately seeking a husband so they can indulge themselves in family life. Of course, that is all true
