contributed a great deal to the field, his theory of anomie is applicable to a variety of circumstances. He authored quite a comprehensive study on suicide, that has as its
root cause anomie. Anomie is a theory that can be used to evaluate many social problems in the world. One problem is pornography and while perhaps this has been
underrated as a crime, and viewed as a victimless crime to some, those in the industry may differ. Many young girls are forced into the industry as they are runaways
or simply do not have the wherewithal to live in an ordinary way. They may be from impoverished backgrounds. They need money, and unscrupulous people take advantage of them. Once
they sell their bodies in such a manner, as participants in the industry, it is difficult for some of them to move on, at least psychologically. Pornography is detrimental in
many ways and may be considered a social problem for which anomie can to some extent explain the etiology of the phenomenon. II. Anomie
Anomie is a concept that refers to the result of a breakdown of social norms. Thus, individuals have a sense of aimlessness because they rely on the social structure to
dictate how they run their lives (McLeish, 1993). Here, Durkheim views people as being unable to make decisions for themselves naturally; they need the society to dictate rules (1993). Emile
