Popular culture is both the product of and a formative factor of a variety of societal interests. In other words popular
culture is formed by our interests and also shapes our interests. If anything stands out the most in a comparison of popular culture and the culture of past generations
it is our need for immediate gratification. We no longer write letters, for example. Instead we send emails, emails that reach their destination seconds after they are composed.
We feel the need to be in constant contact with others and consequently the tether of our home phone has been extended to the invisible tether of the ever-present
cell phone. Even our reading material has changed in accordance with our desire for immediate gratification. E-Zines are a particularly interesting example of that change.
E-Zines, in fact, reflect many aspects of popular culture. They range from conservative to not-so-conservative and often touch on issues in popular culture
which other media outlets are not so forthcoming in covering. Sometimes this coverage is of the more aberrant aspects of our society. This reflection of popular culture can
be quite concerning when it affects our young and moves them into the more aberrant direction of human behavior. E-zines, electronic
publications which include journalistic content traditionally found in the print media, are just one more aspect of the electronic world that represents the need for immediate gratification that so much
characterizes popular culture. Not all E-Zines are bad of course. E-zines allow their readers to circumvent the newsstand or even their own mailboxes and still enjoy the quality
