effects. The focus of the paper then turns to the topic of environmental sustainability and the various ways in which researchers and policymakers are endeavoring to address the problem of
pollution and create systems that interact with the environment in a manner that is sustainable, that is, not detrimental to the environment, but capable of fulfilling the needs of human
populations. Pollution and Sustainable Society Industrialization and innovation in technology and medicine have brought innumerable benefits. However, along with these benefits have come the problems of pollution, as industry
and technology produce multiple contaminants that affect the air, water and soil. Pollution causes illness in human populations and ignites disastrous environmental effects that destroy plants and animal populations. Pollution
is like the Satanic snake in the fragile Garden of Eden that is Earths biosphere. However, if conservation measures are taken and society fixes on goals of sustainability in regards
to the environment, it has been shown that pollution can be controlled and defeated. The following definition of pollution was developed for the purposes of crafting a comprehensive definition
suitable for use in the pollution exclusionary clause on standard liability insurance. This definition of pollution identifies it as the "discharge, dispersal, release or escape of smoke, vapors, soot, fumes,
acids, alkalis, toxic chemicals, or pollutants into or upon land, the atmosphere or any watercourse or body of water..." (Evans and Spilger, 2009, p. 181). In addition to substances that
are normally thought of as pollutants, water pollution also includes discarded pharmaceuticals, as well as endocrine disruptor chemicals (EDCs)(Sharma, 2009). Pollution falls under two basic categories: air and water pollutants.
