been going on for quite some time. There are many things that cause pollution, and perhaps just as many ways to reduce pollution in the world. With that in mind
the following paper examines pollution, the affects of pollution, why people pollute, controls, and what people can do about pollution. Pollution Pollution is something that, as mentioned, has
been around for a long time. Most people do not stop to think about the ways people polluted the world in the past but pollution has long been a problem.
In fact, "Lead pollution from Roman smelters can be traced all across Europe" although serious pollution was not a real concern till the 20th century (Pollution Issues, 2009). Through the
most simple of things like tanning leather and heating ones home, pollution has been part of humanity for a long time. An interesting piece of history concerning pollution is seen
in the following: "Air pollution has been an issue since at least the 11th century, when people began burning coal as an alternative to wood. In the latter part of
the 13th century, in an effort to reduce air pollution, Englands King Edward I threatened Londoners with harsh penalties if they didnt stop burning sea-coal. However, the kings regulations--and those
of subsequent leaders--had little effect" (History.com, 2009). It is interesting to note that even centuries ago people were aware of the dangers of pollution and tried to do something about
it. IN relationship to water pollution it appears as though humans have long been contaminating their water through sewage that was released into water and then conditions became even worse
with the Industrial Revolution (History.com, 2009). And, even more recently, "In 1969, chemical waste released into Ohios Cuyahoga River caused it to burst into flames and the waterway became a
