In Politics Lost by Joe Klein the author sets out to illustrate how political powers have addressed the public in a slowly demeaning manner over the past few decades. The following paper offers a summary of the work by Klein. Politics Lost by Joe Klein This particular work sets out to illustrate to the reader how over the past few decades it seems, and rightly so, as though the politicians speak in words that are all but manufactured, without passion or originality, and thus they truly convey an image of the mundane in many ways, leaving the public in a position where they are clearly spoken "down" to. In the beginning of his work he illustrates what made him really want to become involved in politics. He notes that it was words of Robert Kennedy that inspired and excited him. However, he also notes that by the time he actually did get into politics the stage was without passion or originality. He states how he is essentially lacking in any excitement or passion for politics or potential leaders because of the "insulting welter of sterilized speechifying, insipid photo ops and idiotic advertising that passes for public discourse these days" (Klein, 2006). Throughout the work the author illustrates how so much of what the major politicians say today has little or no meaning. It feels as though everything they say in public is incredibly rehearsed, prewritten, and analyzed before making it to the public.
