in the workplace refer to the interactions and interpersonal dynamics between the people. It can involve using both formal power and informal power. In either case, decisions are influenced by
workplace politics. Kennedys (1998) description of how different-age workers respond and react is a premise that has been proven true. The workplace is a very complex environment to begin
with and that complexity is even greater when we realize some companies have four generations working side-by-side. Each responds very differently to all facets in the workplace. Kennedy (1998) said
that the youngest workers are not impressed by titles and positions. This group is referred to as the Millennials. Their attitude is far different than any of the other generations
and Patton (2007) also reported they would just leave if they were not satisfied. Millennials want praise and recognition, even more so than the other three generations (Houlihan, 2007).
This group does not respond as positively to monetary incentives like bonuses (Houlihan, 2007). They wont refuse the money but they would rather have feedback and recognition. They also want
to be involved, they want to participate in decision making. Everything in the workplace has political undertones. Kennedy (1998) said that "voice mail is a political tool." That is because
it can be used as a source of power. If a manager calls someone and does not leave a message on the other persons voice mail system, the other person
could decide that the manager did not want to talk with him at all (Kennedy, 1998). The workplace is filled with social relationships. Most humans have an innate desire
and/or need for social relationships. It has to do with the human need to belong. People are influenced by the people they interact socially with (Irwin, 2009). If we interact
