be defined, it is useful to look at the origins of the term and the role that political theory plays in modern social culture. It could be asserted, for example,
that a political theorist is concerned with ethical considerations such as those which underpin the structure of government and the legislature, and the correlation between the good of the community
and that of the private individual. Political theory can be seen as intertwined with philosophical doctrine, and to play a major part in the formation of ideologies such as conservatism
and feminism which contribute to political and social discourse. Aristotle considered politics
to be a practical science, and one which had as its central concern the happiness and well-being of citizens, in the sense that it created or reformed social structures in
a way that worked towards the ultimate good of the community as a whole. He saw politics as superior to other practical sciences, such as the running of military
or domestic institutions, in the sense that it was according to political theory that these subordinate disciplines were prioritised and practised. The aim for both individuals and the community was
similar: to attain virtue and the happiness which comes from a sense of right living, but such an outcome was seen as more worthy if it could be applied to
the state rather than simply to the individual. From the Aristotelian point of view,
