this paper properly! Introduction When speaking of the study of politics we often forget that there are varying levels of government. It is more likely the case that people
imagine the federal or national politics when the subject comes up. But, there is an incredible variety of perspectives concerning politics as it involves the country as a whole as
well as individual cities and counties. In the following paper we address two books which present us with a study of politics in general, and also offer us different perspectives
concerning the region of application. The works examined are Clarence N. Stones "Regime Politics," and Paul Petersons "City Limits." Local Politics and Developmental Politics As mentioned, politics often
involves more than that which addresses the nation as a whole. This presents us with a clear different that exists between the two books being examined. For example, Stones work
addresses the city of Atlanta in Georgia while Petersons book examines the politics of cities as they involve the entire country and the process inherent in politics. In essence, Stones
approach is concerned with local politics and Petersons work focuses on the theory of developmental politics. In better understanding the relationship between the two, as well as illustrating the differences,
we turn to Chapter 7 of Petersons book which is titled "The Politics of Development." In this chapter we note that one of the most important aspects discusses the existence
of the elite. Peterson argues that the power elite does not present us with an incredibly valid theory for understanding the system of politics in relationship to the cities due
to the fact that they are not considered to be a unified force. The student should examine p140-142 in relationship to this particular theory. Peterson argues that the elite, however,
