warming has become accepted as a serious problem the world over, but this is only one of many. Environmental issues include a range of issues such as pollution and destruction
of natural habitats locally and nationally as well as increased waste, the use of landfill sites and the general degradation of the environment. It has been argued that "environmental problems
can only be addressed by changing two things at the same time- our ethics as well as the social and political institutions through which we make decisions". This may appear
to be an extreme argument; however, it is also an argument that should be considered. The ethics and social and political institutions of today do not appear to be dealing
satisfactorily with many environmental issues. Despite increasing knowledge and public awareness environmental conditions are worsening; carbon dioxide emissions are increasing, endangered species are dying out and the environment is suffering.
Therefore, by looking at alternative approaches with divergent political and/or ethical dimensions alternative paradigms can be considered in terms of the impact they could or may have on dealing with
environmental problems. There are many ethical and political models with views divergent with the current capitalistic hegemony. Mainstream models such as socialism and
feminism given alternative view on the political and ethical issues, some of which may be useful and careful examination may even find their influences in different areas or countries. Radical
models such as ecofeminism and deep ecology may also add value, however examples of their use and benefits may be more subjective to the readers own point of view.
