there are other areas that are fraught with crime and where police are constantly in danger. It pays to note that police officers play different roles in their positions
as officers of the law. Sometimes they do act as counselors and psychologists as they talk someone down from a bridge who is about to commit suicide. Sometimes, they are
knights in shining amour as they find a missing child who merely fell asleep in the backyard or rescues a kitten from a tree. At other times, they are vigorously
fighting crime and risking their lives. They are pit against the likes of drug dealers and hit men who have no scruples about killing. Even when off the clock, the
officer is required to act and react in dangerous situations when civilians would just be able to run away. There is never a time when the officer is truly off
duty. This fact prompts a larger than life concept of the officer. That said, media has created a monster of sorts by portraying officers as not only less than perfect,
but downright dangerous. The Rodney King tape was looped over and over again. Whenever a car chasse ends, and nerves are frazzled, the TV cameras come out and the officer
is once again made to look like an out of control loon. Not only does television take advantage of these opportunities, but so does print media. Newspapers are replete with
