minimal training and a high school diploma, other districts are requiring that anyone wishing to be a police officer have a college education. The following paper examines the pros and
cons of police officers having a college education. Pros First off, anyone can benefit from a college education, no matter their profession. Most people in any profession must
work with other individuals and this is likely one of the largest realities that relate to the benefits of a college education. For example, a person who works in a
doctors office as a simple secretary would benefit from a college education that perhaps focused on psychology, sociology, and medical training. In this they would be gaining an education that
would enable them to better understand patients and their particular needs. If we imagine a construction worker, they also would benefit from classes in sociology and psychology as well as
business because they must deal with many different personalities and are directly involved in issues of business in one way or another. In essence, a college education broadens ones
understanding of their fellow human being, and of themselves. There are many types of valuable courses that can help anyone in their particular field, topics ranging from history to cultural
studies to composition. As another example, one who takes a course and develops their writing skills will inadvertently know how to express themselves better in their profession, and in their
