in Russell who pointed out how philosophy provides for a multifaceted understanding of truth, inasmuch as it is not necessarily a fluid, consistent entity in all cultures. Pragmatist truth,
at its core, is little more than the personal beliefs individuals harbor as a means by which to seek happiness, a self-serving concept that stands as a primary reason why
the environment continues to suffer at the hands of man. Russell further pointed out that in reality, truth is an interpretive element of
mans world that is construed - and misconstrued - at will; something so intangible to human designation yet so inherently understood throughout the entire species speaks to a presence of
contradictions and serves to make the pragmatic notion of truth a forever-elusive idea, particularly when applying it to ecology. By formal definition, the notion of truth is that supreme
reality whereby one completely understands both the value and meaning of mans existence. The problem, however, is how the words supreme reality takes on as many different contexts in
as many different societies. Therefore, what might be considered environmental truth in one culture has no bearing upon what it might be thought of in another, thereby bringing to
