ago. This is because we have a tendency to think that in our modern age everything is possible, everything (almost) is permissible, and everything is also far more complex than
it was a couple hundred years ago. As such we would imagine that our modern plays are more complex when it comes to interpretation. But, when we must also understand
that plays from a couple hundred years ago are somehow beyond our understanding in many ways. We can imagine, but we cannot truly experience, the society of the time and
as such we are clearly left to interpret such plays in many ways, perhaps never coming to any solid knowledge concerning the play. This is because we are modern people.
2 such plays to be examined are Aprha Behns "The Rover" and Henrik Ibsens "A Dolls House." The following paper examines what makes these plays relevant and what makes them
highly flexible in regards to interpretation. A Dolls House Henrik Ibsens play "A Dolls House" is, at first glance, primarily a play that falls into the genre of
realism, especially for its day and time. It is a play that depicts a common couple with an average income and thus an average lifestyle. Their relationship is not perfect
and the people they know are not perfect. This offers us realism in a very powerful manner. At the same time, however, it is also a dramatic play, as well
as a feminist and a tragic play. And, all of the possible genres involve the character or Nora as something of a hero as the primary theme. As we can
