be sold, planning promotions, such as emphasizing value for money, with management planning in store displays, advertising and assessing any changes in stock ordering needed (Kotler and Keller, 2006). Assessing
overall demand may also help with strategic planning, such as where to open or expand stores, depending on local forecasted potential demand. Political and legal issues may also impact on
the planning, moves to change employment conditions, such as minimum wages, working hours or other health and safety requirements may require planning to make changes in order to comply.
Planning is also needed in the short term, staffing so there are sufficient employees on duty at different times, with events such as
public and school holidays having an impact on the number of shoppers that will arrive. Globalizations may also be seen as having
an impact. There is increased ability to import goods that would either not be available, such as seasonal goods from other parts of the world which would otherwise not be
available, but with increased pressure from environmental factors this may also change in the future. A good example of the impact of globalizations has been Chinas ascension into the World
Trade Organization and increased export from China to the US (Thompson, 2007). This has also been aided by the expiry of the Multi-fiber agreement which has facilitated increased imports from
