the role of the Holy Spirit in telling members of their congregations what it is that they should believe. Discussion of the Holy Spirit within the Catholic church far
too often have evoked images of the "holy rollers," the Protestants who appear to be excessively exuberant in their worship activities. In The
Sources of Christian Ethics, Pinckaers (1995), however, consistently points to scripture and the Holy Spirit as filling the ultimate role of influence in building and maintaining strong moral and ethical
foundations among individual believers. The basis of the only moral code we need is contained within the Sermon on the Mount and the writings of St. Paul (Pinckaers, 1995).
Pinckaers Departure from the Norm Pinckaers (1995) examines the foundations of Christian ethics from both scriptural and Thomistic views, and argues for
scripture as the final authority. He falls back to Thomistic concepts of morality and ethics, but strives to promote scripture as the ultimate plumb line against which all other
views should be assessed and aligned. The Apostle Paul wrote to the Colossians that they should make the most of every opportunity (Col
