As one author notes, "In order to understand the basics of Pilates and why it can work for you, you first need to understand where Pilates came from" (PilatesPowerSystem.com, 2007).
It was originally created by a man named Joseph Pilates in Germany. It was a program also created to help people who were suffering from physical problems, not just an
exercise routine to get in shape. Joseph Pilates evidently had many health problems when he was a child and like many such
individuals he wanted things to change, to be healthier and stronger (PilatesPowerSystem.com, 2007). Born in 1880 he tried many different things to improve his health, even as a child (PilatesPowerSystem.com,
2007). Over the years, as he became an adult, his ideas became more and more refined and "After several failed attempts to create the perfect program for his frail form
he came up with the series of movements we now know as Pilates" (PilatesPowerSystem.com, 2007). However, that was not the end of it for he further developed the program and
it was not until the 1920s that his program was actually refined and perhaps perfected (PilatesPowerSystem.com, 2007). Another author illustrates that Pilate
