There will be natural disasters, people suffering, and it will be a time Jesus returns to the earth. Because it is a very important Biblical event it is something that many artists have been inspired by, creating images, illustrations, to depict what it would look like. The following paper looks at two manuscript pictures, located at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, of different events that will take place during the Apocalypse. The pictures examined are "Manuscript of the Apocalypse, 1320s" and "Leaf from a Beatus Manuscript: Christ in Majesty with Angels and the Angel of God Directs Saint John to Write the Book of Revelation, ca. 1180." Pictures of the Apocalypse at the Met The Manuscript of the Apocalypse, 1320s does not have a detailed description of the verse in the Bible to which it refers. It is a picture, however, that clearly illustrates how some people are going to see God and others will be burning, presumably in Hell. The description of the work simply indicates that the Apocalypse was something that led many to illustrate versions of the Bible. "In addition to lavishly illustrated volumes of the Book of Revelation, such as this example, isolated scenes from the Apocalypse appeared with frequency on buildings, small-scale objects, and in an array of medieval books" Metropolitan Museum of Art [2]).
