and their art was very different as well. However, there are things that the two have in common, and perhaps things that most artists do not ultimately possess. For example, both men were apparently mentally stable enough to be artists and live out a normal healthy life. And, both were wealthy because of their art. The following paper examines the life of each man separately and then compares and contrasts the two. Picasso "Pablo Picasso was born on October 25, 1881 in Malaga, Spain, as the son of an art and drawing teacher" (Bild-Kunst, 2001/2002). He was born into a poor family (SparkNotes, 2005). He was, apparently, a very good student and was accepted into the Barcelona School of Fine Arts when he was only 14 (Bild-Kunst, 2001/2002). He had a grasp for realism from an early age and this apparently allowed him the ability to move forward rather quickly. "He was a rebel from the start and, as a teenager, began to frequent the Barcelona cafes where intellectuals gathered. He soon went to Paris, the capital of art, and soaked up the works of Manet, Gustave Courbet, and Toulouse-Lautrec, whose sketchy style impressed him greatly. Then it was back to Spain, a return to France, and again back to Spain - all in the years 1899 to 1904" (Hoving, 2005). His first real work was apparently the beginning of his Blue Period and was created in 1901. His Blue Period was from 1901 to 1904 and generally was, as the name indicates, painted in blues (Hoving, 2005). He painted prostitutes, social outcasts and beggars (Hoving, 2005).
