Klossowski, better known as Balthus, was that Picasso purchased one of Balthus paintings, entitled Les Enfants Blanchard in 1941. Though this was indeed a compliment paid to the realist
Balthus by Picasso, this is not the only factor that these two artists shared. The two men shared an artistic period in common, and demonstrated the way in which
the human form could be transformed through variations in the artistic perspective. Balthus the realist and Picasso the modernist shared an intereset in the human form that defined value
in the variations in approaches and artistic developments in the frist half of the 20th century. Balthus Therese Dreaming and Picassos Girl Reading at a Table are paintings that
share a common theme: the depiction of a human female at a time of leisure. Both of the characters in these paintings are doing something typical, Balthus Therese
is lounging on a chair, while Picassos girl is sharing a moment with a book at a small table. In each of these cases, the focus of the painting
is on this central character, who takes up the largest amount of physical space of any element in the work. But a quick visual comparison of the two works
suggests that the artists utilized distinctly different perspectives and artistic approaches to their subject. Balthus, for example, demonstrates the skill of the European realist, and he integrates a kind of
accuracy in his work that is almost photographic. Considered one of the 20th centuries greatest realist painters, Balthus was able to integrate elements into the painting that supported his
