restaurant, part of which had been a post office in the early 1900s. There were several minors in the restaurant but only three were six years old or younger. A
five-year-old boy was at one table and a five-year-old girl and a three-year-old boy were at another table. Developmental stage: The developmental stage for all three children would be
in Piagets Stage 3: Concrete operations. The three-year-old would be at the very beginning of this stage which endures from age 2 until age 7 while the two five-year-olds would
be fully situated in this stage. Theory: Piaget described the Preoperational stage (ages 2-7) as a time when children learn language. The childs thinking still tends to be egocentric
during these years. Also, the child still needs to have concrete learning experiences because they cannot yet think abstractly (Piaget and Inhelder, 2000). This is an intense learning period
for the child. Language is difficult and complex to learn, yet, most children succeed. The child uses language to let people know what she wants or does not want.
