standard students must acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to maintain physical fitness, participate in physical activities, and maintain personal health. The safety and healthy environment standard requires that students
acquire the knowledge and ability necessary to create and maintain a healthy and safe environment. Finally, the resource management standard requires that students understand and are able to manage their
personal and community resources (New York State Learning Standards, 2002). In addition, to complete the necessary requirements to graduate with a diploma, further requirements must be met in regards to
physical education standards. The students must perform basic motor and manipulative skills along with being able to attain a certain competency in a variety of sporting and fitness activities as
