opinion and much of this can be tied to a difference in ones worldview. Fowler (2002) calls the phenomenon philosophical discontinuity. While an easy concept to understand, Fowler (2002) goes
further and provides symptoms of philosophical discontinuity. When problems are not resolved or projects do not get completed, there may easily be philosophical discontinuity (Fowler, 2002). Another symptom is that
no new products are forthcoming, and finally, a symptom of this is also high employee turnover (Fowler, 2002). A student asks: How can effective communication and decision-making help people
in a business deal with philosophical discontinuity? Effective communication is clearly the answer to any symptoms of philosophical discontinuity. Perhaps a metaphor will easily convey why this is the
case. In a marriage that ends in divorce, the couple are divided ideologically on one or more issues, and the resolution is to have a third party help them to
communicate with one another. Symptoms of marital problems may include the fact that nothing is completed on the house, and children do not come into the picture or they leave
home early. There is a lack of creativity and production. Perhaps the wife wants to add an addition to the home, but she wants her husband to do all of
the work. He feels differently but does not express his discontent. Then, obstacles surface and nothing gets done. Many small things like that can add up and there is a
