his attempt to solve the murder of a neighbors pet reveals great thematic depth. While the plot is ostensibly about the boy Christophers attempts to solve the murder, the actual
substance of the story largely comes from Christophers first person narration of the story, a narration that, because it is written from the perspective of an individual with an autism
spectrum disorder, can be mystifying and alien to the "normal" reader. In this sense, the book makes for an interesting text from the perspective of phenomenological sociology. Haddon carefully structures
each of the passages in the book such that the reader receives Christophers unique and slightly distorted view of an event, while the more typical interpretation of the events is
also suggested. By emphasizing this disparity between narrator and the narrated world, the author Haddon is able to explore the concept of a phenomenological metaphysics, a conception of the world
