College of Medicine, 2007; USPharmD, 2007). The Code has a preamble or preface with it. This paragraph comments on moral obligations of the pharmacist as well as the virtues the
pharmacist needs to possess (Howard University College of Medicine, 2007; USPharmD, 2007). Upon being licensed, the pharmacist must "vow to devote my professional life to the service of all humankind
through the profession of pharmacy" (USPharmD, 2007), among other things. One author reported that surveys reveal that part of their ethical practice is to act as teachers or instructors to
senior citizens (Editors, 2006). An overwhelming majority of more than 800 pharmacists surveyed said that it was their responsibility to help their older patients understand the Medicare Part D provisions
(Editors, 2006). Like any Code of Ethics for any profession, this one does not tell pharmacists how they should act and what they should decide in every type of instance.
