Cheops by the British) on the Giza Plateau in Egypt (Holden, 1987). The 1954 team of archeologists was led by Egyptian archeologist Karmal el Mallak (Pharaohs Boat, 2000). This team
uncovered the worlds oldest planked vessel (Pharaohs Boat, 2000). Buried n pieces by Khufus son, this so-called "Solar Barque" is believed to have once carried the body of the body
of the pharaoh across the Nile for burial (Pharaohs Boat, 2000). Khufus barge was originally 43.4 meters long and 5.9 meters wide (Farouk and Grace, 1997). It took
eighteen years to excavate and reassemble it in the specially built "Boat Museum" that was constructed on the site (Farouk and Grace, 1997). Holden (1987) indicates that the museum

to preserve the boat, Ahmed Kadry of the Egyptian Antiquities Organization called on Farouk El-Baz, an Egyptian-born geologist who is head of Boston Universitys Center for Remote Sensing (Holden, 1987).
Kadry wanted to know if it would be possible to measure the air and explore the environment of the second chamber, which is still intact, to discern what, if anything,
