production which can be obtained from that deposit The diverse topics covered by petroleum engineering are closely related to the earth sciences. Petroleum engineering topics include geology, geochemistry, geomechanics,
geophysics, oil drilling, geopolitics, knowledge management, seismology, team building, team work, tectonics, thermodynamics, well logging, well completion, oil and gas production, reservoir development, and pipelining. BACKGROUND Reservoir engineering officially began
sometime in the late 1920s (Reservoir Engineering, 2006). It was at that time that many engineers who had been engaged in the recover of petroleum started considering gas-energy relationships.
These engineers recognized that they needed more precise information about the activity of hydrocarbons in their reservoirs that they were finding and using. At the very beginning, the
engineers knew that the petroleum recovery methods that were being based on the wellhead or surface data were often incorrect of misleading. They needed to figure out a way to
obtain a better understanding of characteristics of the petroleum reservoir so that they could determine the bet methods to maximize production. This need for more and better knowledge led to
the evolution that developed the idea of an engineered petroleum reservoir. To fully appreciate the technical and managerial elements of the petroleum industry it is often necessary to understand
some of the main features of oil and gas exploration, engineering, reserves estimation, field development, the economic of oil and gas investment decisions and the basics of oil industry account
and petroleum law (Salisch, 2006). The purpose of this paper is to discuss and examine the geological complexity of petroleum reservoirs and the role of the petroleum reservoir engineer.
Petroleum reservoir engineering is the knowledge and use of the technology, which is concerned, with the prediction of the most economic recovery of oil or gas from reservoirs that
