1970, when McDonalds and other fast food restaurants were in their infancy, Americans spent approximately $6 billion annually on fast food consumption (Shaw, 2004). Three decades later, they were
spending more than $110 billion on fast food, which is greater than the consumer spending on cars, computers, higher education, music CDs, videos/DVDs, software, and print media combined (Shaw, 2004).
What these lovers of fast food seldom pause to contemplate is that they are being dangerously affected by these convenience meals on the run in ways they could never
have imagined. The majority of the public does not realize what is involved in the process of making fast food, which include unsanitary practices and animal cruelty, and how
