1973 following incorporation in June 1971, the firm has grown at a rapid rate, to a firm that has the ability to carry in excess of 26.5 million pounds in
any 24-hour period with the largest dedicated cargo fleet in the world which covers more than 2.5 million miles every day landing in 210 countries (FedEx, 2009). This has been
achieved as a result of the way that the firm is managed, organized and the resource utilized. To assess the firm it may be examined from a number of different
perspectives, in this paper FedEx will be examined from the bureaucratic perspective, the contingency perspective, the cultural perspective and the technological perspective. 2. Bureaucratic Perspective
To consider FedEx from this perspective the perspective itself needs not be considered and the organization assessed against that model. The bureaucratic model has a traditional structure,
there is a strict hierarchal power structure and power is delegated from the top of the hierarchy downwards with different levels of authority and an important role for policies and
rules. In complex organisations the power may need to be spread over the organisation, however, even where this occurs there is still the hierarchal structure and decisions are directed by
company policy. It may be argued that it is an out of date structure as unlike other areas of business it
