assessment refers to the "gathering and evaluation of various sources of information about individuals" using various approaches, such as "psychological tests, interviews (and) biographical material" (Wiggins, 2003, p. 2). Myers-Briggs According to the Consulting Psychologists Press, which is the company that owns the rights to the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), it is the "the most widely used personality inventory in history" (Carroll, 2009). The wide-spread use of the MBTI is also attested by Shi and Yang, (2009). Based on the work of pioneering psychologist Carl Jung, it was originally developed by Isabel Briggs Myers and her mother, Katharine B. Briggs. It consists of four scales, which create 16 basic personality types (Carroll, 2009). In the North American English version of the MBTI, there are 93 questions, which consist of the client choosing between two possible answers for each questions. Answers are used to determine the basic orientation of the client toward the self and his or her environment. The four bipolar scales of the MBTI are: (1) Extraversion- Introversion (EI), which measures the individuals tendency to focus either inwardly on the self or outwardly towards other people; (2) Sensing-Intuition (SN), which measures how an individual prefers to gather information; (3) Thinking-Feeling (TF), which measures the processes that an individual is likely to use to make a decision; and (4) Judging-Perception (JP), which measures how the individual goes about choosing an approach to life (Shi and Yang, 2009). Validity: In their study, Shi and Yang (2009) cite numerous studies that confirm the validity of the four-factor model. Likewise, in her 2000 article, McCaulley, likewise, praises the validity of the MBTI.
