for two decades without completing my course of study, primarily because of work and family obligations and a challenging schedule. My decision to start at the University of Phoenix
came from my belief that the flexible scheduling and distance learning model would give me the opportunity to advance towards my degree at my own pace. Though I had
a considerable number of personal obligations and an extensive workload, I found that given the opportunity to take classes and study during my free time meant that I actually dedicated
more time than ever before to completing my education. When I started classes, I became focused on the value of education and my need to finally meet my personal,
educational and professional goals. When I began my coursework, I believed that education was simply a path towards career success, but didnt really believe that there were a lot
of new materials or information that I could learn that I had not already learned in my decades of work experience. In fact, education seemed more like a means
to an end, the end being advancement in my career that would result in improvement in my personal life through improved earning potential. My work as a federal
employee and my ability to be competitive was limited by my lack of a degree, and initially I sought education simply for that kind of advancement. I had
a solid level of problem-solving skills and basic written and oral communication that I had fostered through my years of employment. I believed that I might experience opportunities to
improve my professional writing and enhance my ability to express myself, but also thought that I had a solid set of skills prior to starting my classes. I took
