setting. The leader is a visionary and is able to create enough excitement that others adopt the vision. The leader engenders trust, respect and loyalty. One of Maxwells 21 Laws
of Leadership is: The Law of Influence - The true measure of leadership is influence, nothing more, nothing less(Maxwell, 1998). Another is: The Law of Connection - Leaders touch
a heart before they ask for a hand (Maxwell, 1998). Another theorist, French, said: Leaders ... are often dramatic and unpredictable in style. They tend to create an atmosphere of
change, ferment, even chaos. They are often obsessed by their ideas, which appear as visionary and consequently excite, stimulate and drive other people to work hard to create reality out
of fantasy. ... managers are typically hard-working, analytical, tolerant and fair-minded. They have a strong sense of belonging to the organization, and take great pride in perpetuating and improving the
status quo" (BMG, 2003). I am striving to meet the characteristics identified in this description. My leadership style would fit within two formal categories of leadership styles: servant and transformational.
The transformational leader is one who creates a vision and a challenge for employees (Bryant, 2003). Burns, who initially postulated transformational leadership, said that transformational leaders are change agents, they
take more risks than others and they inspire their followers (Kanungo, 2001). Transformational leaders do not coerce (Kanungo, 2001). This is one of the strengths of the approach. Transformational leaders
