form, personal training is only a few decades old, but it is already among the fastest growing professions in the country (Holt). However, weight training, as a part of personal
training, originated in ancient Greece and China (Holt). The ancient Greek Olympic games encompassed the sport of weightlifting and, during the Chou dynasty (1122 to 249 BC), soldiers were required
to pass a strength test in order to enlists in the army (Holt). The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) indicates that the nature of the work involved with being
a fitness worker is that these individuals instruct people in how to go about exercise activities, such as strength training, stretching or cardiovascular exercise, specifying that personal trainers generally tend
to work one-on-one with their clients or with small groups of no more than two or three clients (BLS). The work environment associated with personal training can vary, but,
generally, this professionals work in "fitness or recreation centers and health clubs" (BLS). Since these locations try to be accommodating to the needs of their customers, they typically are open
for long hours, which means that personal trainers are likely to work at night and on weekends (BLS). Personal trainers also work in gyms or in their clients homes (BLS).
Another feature of the work environment is that personal trainers enjoy a great deal of autonomy and "have the freedom to design and implement their clients workout routines" (BLS).
