culture evolves, at both a global and a local level. While embracing increasing levels of integration and with the idea that understanding is key to the development of better international
relationship, this should not be undertaken at the cost of the past. Integration and understanding should not equate cultural homogenization. To understand our present, issues such as the past, culture
and representations of that culture, such as artwork and literature are foundations on which understanding should be built. It is with this approach to understanding and embracing culture and cultural
differences that have motivated my studies and drive met to seek a place for an MSc by research at the University of Edinburgh department of Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies
The understanding of different cultural aspects facilitates increased understanding of ourselves and others, it is also an important area of study as within a fast paced environment the value
of the more traditional aspects of life that have been taken for granted in the past. It is by studying and increasing this understanding that I with to create a
basis for my love to be passed onto others, using an MSc to further a career in teaching. As a child I, like many other, had inspirational teachers, it
was not their knowledge that made them stand out, it was their passion and desire to not only teach, but share the love of their subject, which could become highly
contagious in a learning environment. To pass on ,y passion I need s strong foundation in my subject, which I believe I can gain at the University of Edinburgh,
