matt. Everyone one watched for what seemed like minutes to see if George would get up and walk off. As he groaned and pulled his legs towards his
chest, I went to him, assessed his injury and realized that he would not stand and easily walk away from his injury. George had damaged his cruciate ligament and
would require surgery. The extent of Georges injury and the pain that he experienced demonstrated the complex nature of sports-related injuries and the problems that face many athletes during competition.
Georges injury was not my first exposure to sports injuries, nor would it be my last. Just six months later, while skiing with students in the Adirondack Mountains
of New York, I watched as a classmate tumbled and collided with another skier, injuring her foot, ankle, knee and wrist. I quickly moved in and helped assess the
extent of her injuries, and worked to immobilize the areas causing the most pain until emergency medical teams could reach her. Once again, I recognized that orthopedic injuries can
be extensive, can require immediate and responsive care, and, in each of these cases, would require considerable follow-up care in order for these student athletes to return to the sports
they loved. The student should give one more example, which could be written in the following style: Participating in athletics in college not only gave me a
greater understanding of the impact of orthopedic injuries, but also helped me understand the necessity for discipline. The last week of classes during my senior year was also the
