of right and wrong. Along with these lessons, my parents instilled in me a tremendous work ethic. My father frequently conveyed the message that life is hard and that in
order to have a good future, one has to work hard. My mother, as well, stressed developing self-reliance and responsibility. As I stumbled along the path to adulthood, my parents
were always encouraging me. While they were firm, they were also supportive, encouraging, and loving. As this indicates, I had a happy childhood and adolescence, with parents and a family
life that caused me to develop a solid foundation of moral, principles and values that have served me well in life thus far. I married at age 18, but
my husband died when my daughter was just three years old. At this time, my parents offered to send me back to school, but I refused because at that point
in my life, my priority was on working so that I could provide for my daughter. When I remarried, we moved to the U.S. and I would have liked to
have gone back to school and gotten a degree then, but the city we lived in was an hours drive from the closest college. As this indicates, financial factors and
geographical proximity to an institution of higher learning have been major obstacles for me in pursuing a degree. However, currently I am enrolled under a general education curriculum, with
plans to transfer into the school of nursing. Next semester, I plan to take the entrance test that I hope will result in being admitted to the nursing program. Only
