princess, I was determined to be more like my brothers, to assert my more masculine side, and to spend much of my time climbing trees and keeping up with the
athletic boys. Sigmund Freud still exists as one of the most recognized figures in the development of modern psychological thought. Freud
developed his psychodynamic theory based on the belief that the human psyche is comprised of three sometimes conflicting components, the id, the ego and the superego (Psychodynamic Approach, n.d.).
These elements of the human psyche represent the variable elements that impact choice, from our animalistic motivations to our intellectual focus that often extends from a repression of our base
perspective. In relation to my activities in childhood, I pursued interactions with my brothers in a kind of animalistic approach, one that was
based on their "wolf-pack" kind of activities and my desire to be a part of it. During my childhood, a number of issues came to the forefront of my
thinking, including some neuroses and obsessive/compulsive behaviors. During therapy sessions while I was a freshman in college, a counselor emphasized the connection between my lack of control in the
group of boys and some negative events that occurred that led me to feel the need for a level of control that lead to low level obsessive/compulsive behaviors.
