At the very least performance reviews may be undertaken annually. More frequent reviews may be twice a year, or even quarterly. There is no singular time period; the key is
that it is at regular, uniform intervals (Heffes, 2009). 2. Purpose of the Performance Review Employer/Management * Performance reviews can be a tool that helps to identify any gap
between the employees performance and the desired level of performance in order to ensure that performance of the individual employee performance is leveraged. This may be used to plan and
enhance the overall performance of the individual employees, and as such the organization as a whole (Huczynski and Buchanan, 2007). * Performance reviews may be a good tool to
use in undertaking a skills audit so that the firm may be able to understand all the skills and resources it has in human form within the organization. The reviews
can provide a useful format to ensure that the skills of the employees are recorded so that they can be correlated and used in planning (Heffes, 2009). * Training
and development can be aided with the results of performance reviews. In the reviews a common part of the process is to identify current and future training needs of the
individual employees. The data gathered can be used to help with training and development needs identification and planning of the way it may be best delivered (Huczynski and Buchanan, 2007).
* Performance reviews may be used to assess the general success of recruitment and retention polices. This may also be applied to the training policies where one would
expect to see performance improvement in those that have undertaken training and development. * The company can gather information on general motivation levels and the perception of the
