putting that information into practice through quality improvement plans. This paper will explore the role of this method in the case of Brookes Army Medical Center burn unit. In
order for the organization to improve itself in an effectual way, it is necessary for those guiding the improvement process to be able to access critical information. This entails knowing
what types of data are needed in order to monitor improvement, which in turn depends upon what type of improvement is being sought. Generally, what needs to happen is that
the performance of various processes needs to be broken down into quantifiable units, such that when these quantifiable units are counted, they provide some meaningful reflection of whether the process
is performing up to par or not. To better understand this, one might look at some of the actual tools used for data collection for the purpose of measuring
performance. One of the most useful tools is the internal audit (Braillon, 2011). In an audit, an independent assessor analyzes what areas of the organization are receiving what amount of
funding, as well as how much revenue is generated by each of the areas; in general, there should be a sense of balance between how many resources are put into
an area of a business, and what the area of the business returns in terms of ultimate value. If an area is not producing value as it should, then this
