chorus must understand how to do things like sing while sitting, how to stand properly and how to train and improve singing abilities, how to take care of their voice,
and what to do about feeling ill. There are many more skills involving in singing in a chorus than simply being able to sing. The following paper examines some of
these issues, providing tips for performance etiquette for chorus singers. Performance Etiquette for Chorus One of the most important elements or
actions involved in singing in a chorus is proper posture. A person who sings in a chorus must essentially fall in line with the other singers and as such they
cannot slouch or put weight on one foot or another in any obvious manner. Proper posture is also essential to singing as well for when a persons body is not
in proper posture they are not utilizing their voice and their diaphragm to the fullest extent. Utilizing the diaphragm to the fullest
extent also involves proper breathing and proper breathing, or truly effective and efficient breathing, cannot occur without proper posture as well. Proper posture involves essentially putting equal weight on both
feet, hands at the sides in most cases, and the spine aligned in a straight line with the stomach pulled in and shoulders set straight.
Such posture does not mean that the chorus singer must always remain completely stiff and straight, but that this sort of alignment must always be present to
some extent. There may be songs wherein the singer must use their arms, moving around, perhaps stepping back and forth or side to side, but the basic alignment must always
