a deep societal impact. The visual and performing arts are, in fact, often created for just that purpose. One begins to experience these art forms even when they
are a young child. The impressions that are made can last a lifetime. These impressions sometimes have societal reverberations as well. The arts can even be used
as a tool to effect societal change. An individuals first experience with the arts is typically that of an audience member. This
experience can be in both formal and impromptu settings. I remember, for example, seeing the expression on a four year old boys face when his five year old brother
burst out in his rendition of "Little Bunny Foo Foo" at a jammed steak house one Sunday afternoon. While many in the "audience" might have perceived this only as
the antics of a cute child, there was no doubt in that childs brothers mind that his brother was in fact an artistic genius. Indeed, the five year old
was obviously performing in the true sense of the word. He had carefully rehearsed the words of a song that he had learned in Kindergarten. It was a
song that had moved him and he wanted to move others. He waited his time and delivered his performance. Like all performances, his was received differently by different audience
members. Regardless, it was a memorable experience for many that day and one that will never be forgotten. The performing arts are
