of the United States are heavily involved in decision making processes. However, the truth is that the United States is run by individuals that the people put into office, by
special interests and by groups that are supported by sects of people. In these respects we can say that the United States is heavily influenced by the people, but at
the same time there are political oligarchies that also rule the nation. The following paper examines the role of the people in the decision making process of the democratic United
States. The Role of the People The founding fathers of the United States essentially took a great many different ideas an incorporated them into a unique style of
government that did put people ultimately in charge of the government. If the people of the nation ever felt as though the government were doing a very bad job, or
inflicting too much control over the people they could actively choose to rid the nation of the powers responsible for the problems. The government of the United States Constitution
essentially mixes together forms of monarchy, aristocracy and others focuses so that the government must work together in many different levels (Montgomery, 2003). This makes up what is know as
a system of checks and balances. It is designed to meet the needs of as many people as possible (Montgomer, 2003). It seeks to avoid focus on special interests, although
the United States is not without its special interest groups that influence one or another aspect of government. Perhaps the most important thing to realize about the government of
