The problems that are faced may vary depending on the type of change or the form adopted. If there is a move towards a traditional organisation form, for example, from a small organization that was entrepreneurial to a model suitable for a larger organization, to look at the potential problems some of the different forms can be considered. Older organizational models tend to have a formal hierarchy, which can be an advantage when there are difficulties and formal power structures are needed. There are clear lines of responsibility and accountability; it is also a widely understood model by most of the employees in the workplace (Scheidegger, 1996). However, along with the more rigid hierarchy and the greater potential of autocratic leadership styles which can be problems due to the negative impact this has in terms of poor employee relations, there are other challenges a which can include a bureaucratic structure which is slow to change, a particular issue if the firm was formerly smaller and more flexible changing as a result of growth. This is a structure where there may be difficulty in bilateral communication across departments and the ability to take advantage of emergent strategies may also be more limited, if the change was from a more organic structure the employees are likely to feel more (Mintzberg et al., 2008). Transformed organizational models are more flexible and tend to have flatter hierarchical structures.
