the difficulty some students with learning disabilities have transitioning from school to the work environment. The paper was well-structured with appropriate sub-headings which guide the reader from one issue to the next. The structure also increases the readers awareness of how and why there is a problem. Further, the abstract tells the reader exactly what to expect when reading this paper. The author makes specific recommendations, citing social change theory and psychological theories. Effectiveness The author provided a great number of statistics to demonstrate to the reader the need for the change being recommended. The interviews with two adults with learning disabilities to determine how they made the transition from school to work was a great touch. It provides actual experiences, which lends support to the need for some sort of a transition program. The author made a correlation between Functionalism as a prevailing social-change theory in the society and how individuals with learning disabilities disrupt the social balance. As the author explains, it does so because LD individuals do not fit the expected mold. This led to a good discussion of the specific difficulties young adults with learning disabilities have in seeking employment. The author also explained how many limitations some people with LD have, such as transportation. This discussion added support to the authors argument that this population misses opportunities that they may have in gaining employment and then, in advancement if there was a better transition program. The entire discussion of the problems at least some people with learning disabilities face when attempting to gain employment was well-done. It included issues such as a lack of social skills development which would limit networking opportunities.
