Here peer pressures is often seen as a negative influence, however, if we are to consider how peer pressure may manifest an influence the individual we should also place a
balance on this, remembering that for any negative there may also be a positive. In undertaking a literature review of the role and If we consider the work of
Jean Piaget we can look at the way learning develops. He divides development into many phases where different characteristics are evident. By the time a personality reaches adolescence peer pressure
may be seen as one of the more important influences, mixing with the other cognitive abilities (Fisher, 1993). Jean Piaget was a
human developmental psychologist who worked in the 1920s. The use of the developmental model that he founded is used in both the psychology field as in the consideration of education.
The approach taken by Piaget was an holistic approach to learning, where there were many factors, and the entire environment would impact on the way that a child learnt, this
induced consideration of the different ways in which learning might take place (Fisher, 1993). At adolescence, he argues, we see the formal operations stage when adolescents are going through their
later personality formation and undertaking a great deal of the learning in later life. y adolescence we can argue there is a wider understanding of the world around them as
well as in their own through process, aspects of decision making and learning can be increased with the understanding of different perspective and potential biases (Fisher, 1993).
