A dedicated missionary and a prodigious theologian, Paul virtually "single-handedly transformed a fringe movement of messianic Jews" into a religious faith that would sweep the Greco-Roman world (Sheler 52). The
story of Pauls conversion to Christianity, which was initiated by a vision that he saw on the road to Damascus that temporarily blinded him, is one of the best known
in the New Testament. The following examination of Acts looks specifically at the accounts of Pauls conversion that occur in Acts chapters 9, 22 and 26. Scholars assert that
the authenticity of Acts is provided by intrinsic evidence within the text (Breen). First of all, the "unity of style" and the overall completeness of its literary design suggest that
this is the work of one author (Breen). Also, there are numerous passages where the author closely identifies himself with Paul and uses the personal pronoun "We," which seems to
exclude the possibility that this text is the "work of a redactor" (Breen). There is evidence that Luke was a companion of Paul and Paul refers to Luke as a
"fellow-worker" (Breen). This seems to verify Luke as the author and substantiates the opening statement in Acts, which identifies its author with the creation of the third gospel (Breen). As
this attests, the historiography and authenticity of Acts is well established, with many scholars supporting the idea that it was written by Luke. The abrupt ending of the book suggests
that it was written soon after the events described in Acts took place, which further supports its authenticity. Pauls conversion is described in Acts 9:1-19; 22:4-16 and 26:12-18 (Hedrick
