during his spare time by painting; between 1879 and 1886, he was showing his works in literally every single Impressionist exhibition he could reach as a result of his association
with Camille Pissarro. Now a family man, the Gauguins relocated to Copenhagen for a brief time: Gauguin soon went go back to Paris by himself to pursue his painting,
inasmuch as his desired business career never got off the ground. Four artists in particular proved extremely influential in Gauguins career: Edgar Degas, Charles Laval, Emile Bernard and Vincent van
Gogh. These individuals were instrumental in influencing changes to Gauguins artistic interpretation, with Laval acting as a significant inspiration to his primitive attraction. So intrigued was he with
the Impressionists that he spent approximately seventeen thousand francs on various works by Manet, Monet, Sisley, Pissarro, Renoir and Guillaumin (Gauguin). Reacquainting with some of these artists encouraged Gauguin
to organize "a group exhibition of their work at the Caf? Volpini, Paris, in 1889, in conjunction with the Worlds Fair" (Paul Gauguin). Two years later, he would ultimately
raise enough money from the sale of his varied works as a means by which to finance a trip to Tahiti, the locale for which he is most well known.
Some of his earlier pieces included Les Alyscamps, Arles 1888; Still Life with Three Puppies 1888; The Swineherd, Brittany 1888; Le Christ jaune (The Yellow Christ) 1889; and M.
