the ways in which consumerism, expectation and nursing care intersect. This insightful article offers insight for advanced nursing practice as to how this contemporary social phenomenon should be regarded, as
well as offering useful information on the discrepancies between what women, as consumers, imagine and the actual reality of giving birth. In particular Mather reports on the experience of midwives
